GBIS – The Great British Insulation Scheme in Shropshire & the Midlands
The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is a UK Government initiative designed to make insulation more affordable for millions of households. Unlike ECO4, which focuses mainly on low-income households, GBIS is open to a wider range of people, including those not on benefits. Apply directly on GOV.UK here.
What is GBIS?
GBIS is a government-backed scheme, funded by major energy suppliers and overseen by Ofgem. It provides funding for insulation measures that help reduce energy waste, cut bills, and make homes more energy efficient. It mainly covers loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation, and room-in-roof insulation. Learn more on Ofgem’s GBIS page.
Who Qualifies for GBIS?
You may be eligible for GBIS if:
- Your home is in council tax band A–D in England, or A–E in Scotland and Wales.
- Your property would benefit from improved insulation.
- You may or may not receive benefits – GBIS is broader than ECO4.
