What is ECO4?

ECO4 is the latest phase of the government’s Energy Company Obligation scheme, running from 2022 until 2026. Who Qualifies for ECO4?

You may be eligible for ECO4 funding if:

You receive certain benefits (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Housing Benefit, Income Support, ESA, JSA, Child Tax Credit, or Working Tax Credit).
Your property has an EPC rating of D–G.
You are considered low-income or vulnerable to fuel poverty.

Everything You Need to Know About ECO4 & GBIS

Do I really get this funding for free?

Yes. Both ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) are government-backed initiatives, funded by the UK’s largest energy suppliers. If you qualify, the cost of your improvements is fully or mostly covered — with no hidden fees.

Who is eligible for ECO4 or GBIS?

ECO4: Aimed at low-income or vulnerable households, or those receiving certain benefits. It can also support properties with low EPC ratings (D–G).

GBIS: Broader eligibility. It mainly focuses on insulation and is open to households in council tax bands A–D in England (A–E in Scotland & Wales), even if you don’t claim benefits.

Do I need to own my home?

Homeowners: Yes, you can apply directly.
Tenants: You may be eligible, but your landlord will need to give permission.
